Blue Wave Featured Art for Cover of Becoming Heroines by Elizabeth Cronise McLaughlin

I'm especially excited to announce that my painting Blue Wave was selected as the cover art for Elizabeth Cronise McLaughlin's upcoming book, Becoming Heroines: Unleashing Our Power for Revolution and Rebirth, published by Penguin Random House. (The book is available for preorder and will be released in July 2021.)
I have followed Elizabeth for the last several years and her daily Resistance Live broadcasts got me through some tough days. I learned so much from the ins and outs of the US legal system to how to stand up as an activist and ally. In late October 2020, I had the idea to paint Blue Wave with the intention of manifesting a Biden-Harris administration and a Democratic Senate and House of Representatives. As I painted the piece, I found I kept thinking about Elizabeth—all her work of the last several years and the community of change leaders she created, and how hard she has been working to create change in this country. Blue Wave was not just me painting a dream for me, not just for the country, but also for her.
Twitter Magic and the Pitch
A couple of weeks ago, Elizabeth shared some proposed covers to her book. The designs were ok, but then I remembered Blue Wave and thought..hmm, that could be cool, why not? I did a couple of quick mock up designs with Blue Wave and a couple of my other paintings, steeled my nerves, and tweeted. There was very quickly a lot of positive feedback--including from Elizabeth. Not long after, Penguin Random House reached out to me and asked if I would license my work for the cover. I was thrilled and said yes.
The image of the cover (below) dropped this week and blew up my nicely Panda Planned schedule for the day as I fielded web inquiries, emails, and tweets. Honestly, I felt so lucky to have such a great problem!
